1999

Even though 1999 introduced artists like Christina Aguilera and Sugar Ray, was a comeback year for Cher, and the beginning of the boy band era, this is my pick:

. . . Baby One More Time, Britney Spears

Keep in mind, this was the cute Britney that didn't bash SUV's with umbrella's, shave her head, or have babies with guys nicknamed K-Fed.

I remember going to college Halloween parties and EVERY freaking girl had her hair in braids and wore plaid skirts, tied white shirts, and knee highs. I didn't, but I know you did and you looked like a total hottie. I was a little jealous and wished I had more confidence to wear that little outfit out and about. 1999 was a good year for boys that had a thing for the school girl look.

Truth: I still don't know what the hell, "Hit me baby one more time" means AND I still love me some Britney even though she can be a total nut.

CHORUS
My loneliness is killin me (and I)
I must confess I still believe (still believe)
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
give me a sign,
hit me baby one more time!

Runner up: Run, Collective Soul
Is there a cure among us?
From this processed sanity?
I weaken with each voice that sings
In this world of purchase
I'm gonna buy back memories
To awaken some old qualities

Hmmmm, I need to awaken some old qualities. Like smiling at strangers. Lady strangers. I wouldn't want your grandpa to get the wrong idea.

Song I hated the most in 1999:
Livin' La Vida Loca. Sure Ricky Martin was a cutie, but that song got WAY too much radio play and I thought he was a sucky dancer.

oh my god. I can't believe you have Run on your list. I LOVED that song. I thought I was the only one. I still love that song.

I love me some Britney. Then and now. And I still love Baby One More Time.

I love that song. I love Brit. In all her incarnations.

Did you see her MTV special where she was supposed to be talking about why she isn't crazy but all she did was talk about her crazy? Yeah, that really hit home for me. I understood
every
word

said.

Thank you, Britney.
