1985 - 1986

I've been doing alot of thinking lately about the pop culture I grew up with as a kid. Don't ask me why. Maybe that's what 'getting older' does to you. It's the first phase of getting to the age when we begin morphing all of our thoughts into reflection and focus less on the future. When we reach 70 +, there won't be much time left to make new memories or reflect, so some of us may start living our life in reverse. It's scary to think about.

Being old is going to suck balls. Maybe. Probably. Hell, I don't know. I'll tell you when I get there I guess.

Anyway, back to my original focus. Pop culture circa 1985 - 1988. The best years of my childhood. Pre-divorced parents, pre-puberty, pre-teen angst. The years I was able to be a kid and was oblivious to the problems of the world. My life pretty much consisted of playing with my friends and watching cartoons. I thought it would be fun to do a little throw-back recap on 1985 and 1986 and see what you remember.

Ready? Here we go.

1985 - Super Mario Brothers, She-Ra Princess of Power, Care Bears, Teddy Ruxpin, My Buddy / Kid Sister dolls, Pound Puppies, and The Wheel of Fortune game. My parents and/or grandparents didn't have the dough to buy most of the toys, but me and my sister did receive a Pound Puppy and The Wheel of Fortune game that Christmas and we watched the hell out of She-Ra. Being He-Man's twin sister would have been cool. They probably just hung out at home in their unitards sharpening their swords of protection and power.

My Pound Puppy was the one in the front on the right. Do you remember they tried to market the Pound Purries since the Puppies were such a hit? Dumb.

1986 - Aahhhh, the year of blockbuster hits like Top Gun, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and Crocodile Dundee. I was drooling over Tony Danza in Who's the Boss? My Saturday morning cartoons consisted of The Wuzzles, The Smurfs, Muppet Babies, The Real Ghostbusters, Punky Brewster, Pee-Wee's Playhouse, and finally ending with Hulk Hogan's Rock n' Wrestling. From 8 - 12:30 our asses were parked on the floor, 2 feet from the TV screen. Looking back, I can't believe how much freaking TV we were allowed to watch.

Remember this guy? The Domino's Noid. I loved those commercials!

Well, I have book club to attend. Chat atcha later friends and enjoy the weekend!
